Class III Captive Wildlife Permit
Class III Captive Wildlife Permit
In order to own a pet skunk in the State of Florida, you must first obtain a Class III Captive Wildlife Permit from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. All applications are done on-line, to access the permit page go to https://license.gooutdoorsflorida.com/CaptiveWildlife/CustomerLookup/. You’ll first need to create an account and FWC will send you two (2) emails, one with your account number and one with a pin number. Once you have those you can log in and apply for your permit. You’ll need to watch the process (currently taking a minimum of three (3) months as of this writing) as they will not notify you when it is ready. They no longer mail the permit, you will have to print your copy from on -line. There are two types of permits: (1) Class III No-Cost Personal Pet Permit, and (2) Class III, for Exhibition or Public Sale License (this permit costs $50 per year for all the skunks you own). The basic difference between the two permits is the $50 permit allows you to take your skunk out in public whereas the free permit does not. FWC does not accept paper applications any longer so if you don’t have a computer, you’ll need to find a friend to help you out. Applications cannot be done on your cell phone. The process has been taking 8 to 12 weeks before you get your permit. If you do not get your permit within that time, we suggest you call FWC as sometimes they have a backlog or if they had a question about your information, they may not have had time to contact you. They no longer answer the phone so your best bet is to email them at cwapps@MyFWC.com and inquire about the status of your application.
